2016 National Appreciation Week -Nathan Gurrini

Thompson School District is proud to celebrate 2016 National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6. All this week, we are featuring photos and inspirational words submitted by students and families throughout the district.

Teacher: Nathan Gurrini

Students: Sarah, Paul, Taylor, Wyatt & Tasha

School: Mountain View High School

We would like to recognize our teacher Nathan Gurrini for his willingness to go above and beyond what is expected of him as a teacher to further the learning of students who want to challenge themselves. In the beginning of the year, several of us expressed interest in taking an Algebra II class over the summer to continue our learning. However, as we looked into it, we realized it would not be possible due to sports, camps, travel, cost, and various other activities. So while many people would have said “oh well,” Mr. Gurrini selflessly stepped up to the plate and volunteered to give up his time to supervise, grade and teach an entire extra year of content to the five of us. This class was originally planned to be taken entirely over the summer through an online program. He is now instructing us during F.L.O. (flexible learning opportunity), a time we get twice a week for about an hour. To date we have done about 22 F.L.O. class periods and have already covered about a semester and a half of Algebra II. As a teacher, he does not get impatient when a student struggles to grasp a lesson’s concept, but instead works through it step by step with a smile on his face. He enforces the rules and still manages to keep his classroom relaxed and fun for students. Mr. Gurrini makes sure that we are all learning and pushes us to challenge ourselves.

Thank you,  Mr. Gurrini, for taking time out of your schedule to help us excel, showing how much you care about the success and learning of your students.
