We have made No Place for Hate a STEM class at Walt Clark. We have 33 students in our class that are a mix of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The class meets 2 times a week for 45 minutes at a time.
During our PARCC Testing days this year our No Place for Hate students became teachers! They practiced and prepared during STEM class to teach the rest of the student body about the effects of Cyberbullying and how to stop it and also about the Pyramid of Hate. For two of the testing days the students broke into groups of 2 or 4 and traveled to different classes for three blocks of 30 minutes. They led activities and discussion about these topics. On the third day our students read the Resolution of Respect to the classes and had everyone pledge to follow these principles by signing a chain link. The links representing every student who took the pledge, have been put together and are hanging in our cafeteria.
It has been a great experience watching our students grow as they prepared and presented to their peers. They are becoming leaders in our school and most important using their voice.
