The Colorado legislature recognizes that approximately 2% of children are academically and socially advanced, thus requiring an Early Entrance procedure for students who do not meet Kindergarten and First Grade age requirements. Academically, these students are already recognizing sight words and beginning to read, adding and subtracting numbers, and identifying simple patterns. They possess an outstanding memory and prolifically question the adults in their lives as the observe the world around them in a complex, in-depth manner. Socially, these students often prefer the company of older children and adults.
Thompson’s Early Entrance process is designed to identify these highly gifted students who would, without entrance or acceleration, be hampered academically. Parents/guardians can download the application from the district website or obtain the application from the front desk and the administration building, located at 800 S. Taft Ave. in Loveland. A portfolio of supporting documentation is required with the application; students will then will be assessed by district personnel. There is no fee for this testing or application.
Thompson’s Early Entrance is currently accepting applications for the 2016-2017 school year. All applications are due by noon on April 1, 2016. Late applications will not be accepted. If you have questions, you may contact Carol Swalley at 970-613-5058 or visit our website.
