In October, Thompson Valley High School Student Council members hosted a “Walk 4 Water” event to raise enough money to sponsor a fresh water well in Uganda. The cost for the well was $10,500. The council had over 150 students, parents, and community members walk just over two miles, which is the average distance young girls need to walk in Uganda to get water from a dirty water source.
TVHS students learned about the Aputon-Koreng Village that the group will be sponsoring and are excited to say that they raised more than enough money to provide clean water to a village of 7,000 children and 3,000 adults – a grand total of over $14,000! The additional funds will provide other needs in the village, specifically those related to children and their education.
The village is already surveying for water and the well is scheduled to be providing clean water to the village by spring.
